So here’s the setup: My clients were lamenting a common hurdle—wanting to get ahead, gain more knowledge, but always coming up short on time. Maybe you’ve felt it too—the grind of wanting to be smarter, sharper, more informed, but can't seem to squeeze it into your busy days.
Now don’t get me wrong; you don't need to sit with a leather-bound tome every night. Information is everywhere. You just need to tap into it. But here’s the kicker: you might already have the time. You’re just spending it without realising the cost.
Case in point—how many times have you unwound after a long day with a drink (or several)?
Let’s break it down. I asked them, “How many beers do you have each day?” The numbers ranged from as low as five to as high as ten. Ten beers a day! Just let that sink in. If each one takes about 15 minutes to drink, that's over two hours of time. Two hours that could be turned into something spectacular. And for most out there, it's a ritual, not just a one-off. These little rituals, while providing short-term comfort, can compound over time, eating into our growth.
So, I dropped an idea on them. Swap out just one night of beer time each week for something constructive, like reading a book or investing time in a course. Sounds easy, right? But trust me, that tiny shift can be as hard as quitting a habit. Humans love consistency in their routines—even if it’s consistently holding a drink.
Yet, an interesting thing happened. This simple suggestion started to make sense to my clients—one less beer, one more chapter. The faces softened, the resistance waned. It only takes a tiny swap to illuminate a new direction for your life, aligned with growth and aspirations.
In this hustle of life, we think we’re strapped for time. But in reality, it’s all about perception and priorities. Every day, we’re making choices—some uplift us, others hold us back.
Your choice might not be between beers and books, but it could be something like TV versus tutorials, or social media versus skill-building workshops. The core message remains: Identify what consumes your time needlessly, and pivot.
Once you make small swaps in your daily life, you start reaping the benefits. You gain knowledge, apply it, and become smarter, significantly impacting your ability to earn and succeed.
Simple? Yes. Easy? Not always. The discipline you build through these choices is more than just personal growth. It’s about relevance and evolution in a world that never stops advancing.
